Infrared Sauna
Why infrared?
As compared to traditional saunas which heat the air around you infrared uses light waves that penetrate tissues, heating you from the inside out. This makes it more comfortable to stay in longer due to needing lower temperatures to achieve the same goals.
As you can see in the image below, near infrared (NIR) penetrates all the way to muscle tissue. Our sauna is ‘Full spectrum’, meaning it has near, mid and far infrared light. Far infrared reaches even more deeply into the tissues, allowing for the most benefits. Studies have even proven that these waves can even pass through the skull and into the brain! (1.)

Promotes cardiovascular health
In studies, long-term sauna use has been found to elicit the same cardiovascular response to moderate exercise. Over time, this decreases blood pressure (1.), improves left ventricular function (2.), improves arterial efficacy(3.), and increases heart rate variability(4.).
Decreases inflammation
An consistent increase in core body temperature initiates a response in the body to release anti-inflammatory cytokines. (5. & 6.) This could potentially help to prevent inflammatory diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
Improves mental and cognitive health
Increasing core body temperature has been found to stimulate production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and decrease cortisol. (7.) BDNF promotes the growth of new neurons, decreases anxiety and depression, and is active in areas of the brain responsible for learning, long term memory and executive function.
Aids in muscle repair and growth
Thanks to the increase of BDNF saunas aid in muscle recovery and producing muscle mass. (8.)
Supports the immune system
Due to an increase in heat shock proteins (HSPs) sauna use aids in modulating immune cell signaling (9.) and even decreases the chances of certain acute or chronic respiratory illness. (10.)
Detoxification
Higher amounts of BPA (11.) and certain heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury where found in sweat as compared to blood or urine. In a specific case report mercury levels normalized with repeated sauna use. Though further study is recommended this lends towards sauna use being highly beneficial in removing these toxins. (12.)
